Omen, when I read your comment, you have a point but how about those people who are being mugged, beaten, killed, etc? Me and my team watched the streets to avoid those kind of crimes but we're not doing it properly unless you guys tell me how to conceal my weapon.

I am not here to change your mind, Nightmare. I am offering you another way to think. Whether or not you take it is up to you.

As for not being in your country, that is a moot point. Laws exist for a reason. If they are not working, then why not strive to be the change to that? If you feel that believe that the laws are ineffective and you are carrying out your own form of justice without researching the correct protocol recorded within the boundaries of your Laws… then you are acting as a Vigilante.

Vigilantes ARE criminals. I did NOT say that Vigilantes are bad or evil… I said that they are criminals which makes them the subjects of law enforcement actions. They are NOT RLSHs. They are individuals who have made the conscious choice to break the law or to act outside of it.

What type of message does this send to others?
Whom are you inspiring and what are you inspiring them to be?

Heroes are judged by their challenges and how they solve them.
Heroes are judged by their failures and how they stood proud from them.
Heroes are judged by the knowledge that they took the time to learn and the wisdom they gain from it.

No one promised you an easy path or an easy life. Death will be the only one to escort you from this life, but know this… while you’re here, STRUGGLE is promised! Doing ‘Right’ is NEVER easy! Neither is trying to do your best at it.

If I saw someone getting beat (and I have), I would try to help them. If I had to fight or kill… I would do it. Is it easy… NO! Do I place myself in harm’s way so that these options are readily available… HELL NO!!
WHY?!? Because I have been blessed with a mind to think, a Will to try something different, and a Spirit to have faith in my new path… no matter how different it may be. I too am from a violent world, it did not mean that I was above or outside the reaches of the Law.

Why would you come here, or ALL places, to ask about weapon concealment, when the law is different for different regions? If you’re going to be the hero that you are striving so hard to be, then PLEASE understand that there is more to it, than physical actions and asking advice to a community of people you don’t know.

YOU are responsible for YOU! This is called Accountability and Responsibility.

You must work to grow your mind and knowledge even more than your body and strength. It is the mind that stops a deathblow when you have an opponent down, not your strength. It is the mind that aids in thinking outside-the-box, not your body.

If you’re trying to function as a hero, then THIS is a community which is trying to move in that direction. If you are embracing actions outside of the Law, then you must truly ask, is this the correct place to be?

If your answer is, ‘YES’ because of the support you’ve received from your actions, then WE need to ask, ‘What are we truly doing here?’ and ‘What direction are we really guiding our younger members in?’

You are not to fault for everything that has happen to you, but you are responsible for all of the decisions that you consciously make that dictate your actions. Know this, when the price of those decisions is purchased by a punishment that you may not like.

I agree with omen.

I should note I wasn't advocating patroling at all; I was talking self defense.

When it comes to making the world a better place there are many ways to do it without putting yourself and your family and friends at risk.

John: I can guarantee you a 14 year old reading your advice on getting a gun as "get a gun as fast as you can" not as "wait 7 years until you are 21".

Why 21? Most of my cousins and friends were already shooting clay pigeons when they were 13 xD I did too by the way. I wouldn't recommend carrying one at a young age, probably not until you're at least 18. I started patrolling pretty young too so I can't tell you what you should or shouldn't do. But I would just recommend to know your limits and don't do anything stupid and/or illegal.

John: A responsible person considers the perceptions of the people they are speaking to.  A 14 year old who is already prone to making bad choices should not be advised to carry a gun.

How do you know he is prone to making bad choices? You don't even know who he is.

And read what I said. I never advised him to carry any weapons of any kind anywhere in my message.

Carrying a gun? Guys, I already have some anger issues and I don't really know what might just happen if I have a gun and somebody pissed me off. Outcome would be bloody, isn't it? All I know about this place is don't do something bad. We're not vigilantes or we are not trying to become one. You guys know what should I do to prevent myself of becoming one?

He sounds like a kid living ina fantasy world, not someone prone to making bad choices. He's inspired by the heroes on the pages he read for years, he's basically how most kids are at that age and how most of us likely started. Guage seemed to make him sound like a punk, and without, fck, i dunno, actually spending time with the guy I don't see how he has any room whatsoever to say what kind of a person a kid in a nother country whom he has never even met behaves and thinks. I disagree, is what I'm saying. Not condoning or condemning, just pointing something out. We all have judgments of others and we canot simply stop judging people; it's never going to happen, everyone judges dozens of times a day, some are big some are small and some are made without hardly enough information about the actual person in which case such judgments I feel should be addressed. Nightmare may very well be living a total fantasy and maybe he isn't; we can't know for sure. We have our opinions, but we don't really know anything, which is why I worded myself so carefully when speaking with him because I have read his posts and he does not seem like a punk or thug to me, or a kid who is just prone to fucking up, in my opinion. And I think it' stupid to say such a thing when you don't know the kid. Sorry if I sound crabby. I quit a bad habit last night at midnight and am having some affects.

John, you either haven't read nightmare's previous posts, or don't understand the gravity of what you have read.  That is youth and inexperience, and is to be expected, but you are responsible for every word you say, and need to understand who you are addressing when you say it.  Nightmare is a young, impressionable, and very angry kid who makes poor choices because of that.  When someone older says he should get a gun as soon as he can, he is not thinking like you are about waiting until it is legal for him to carry.  If you don't take responsibility for thinking more thoroughly about the advice you give -- and who you are giving it to -- then it may be best to refrain from offering it.

Nightmare, PLEASE read the anthology that we released. There is a story in there called, ‘Dark America’ based on the attitudes, and personality types that I have encountered in the RLSH community. I am VERY serious about this recommendation, because you are not the first person to come on here with these feelings, actions, and thoughts.

Here’s the thing…

If you know you have anger issues, and they are not fixed or under control, WHY would you go on patrols? Even then, according to your implications, the areas that you have chosen to patrol are not the safest.

This reminds me of a person driving a car that has bad breaks and loose steering… even worse, the driver is choosing to speed down an icy road. We ALL have an idea as to where this trip is going to end up.

Police are screened before they earn the title and after any extreme incidents they encounter. They have, not only, debriefings, but counseling to help them to cope with issues. Soldiers, firemen, and Marines go through the same. While this is not the overall solution to the problems that grow within an ‘action-person’s’ mind, it is a step towards helping them.

You are angry. You know you’re angry. You ask for help in the same breath that you cry, “You can’t change my mind.” When advice is given to you about looking into different options, you return with more questions about weapon concealment and armor.

It is VERY hard to pour water into a full cup of bleach.

Everything starts with you, Nightmare. You need to understand that you don’t have anything to prove to ANYONE other than yourself. Once you get to know yourself and trust yourself… learn how to lead yourself. After all, what you practice is what you do best.

Research the Leadership Traits and give some SERIOUS thought to them:

Justice

Judgment

Dependability

Integrity

Decisiveness

Tact

Initiative

Endurance

Bearing

Unselfishness

Courage

Knowledge

Loyalty

Enthusiasm

You have some of these traits already. It is the one’s that you are weak on that you need to work to improve. Take the time to also look into the Principles of Leadership.

These components are the foundation to warrior development.

One of the biggest things I find missing amongst the youth in this community is the UNDERSTANDING that learning to give BEFORE taking is just as critical as choosing one’s weapons and armor.

Let me explain…

  • Policeman

  • Fireman

  • Nurse

  • Doctor

  • Soldier

  • Marine

  • Teacher

  • Etc.

What do they all have in common? They all have to give their Hearts, Minds, Bodies, and Souls into their chosen profession in order to learn it, perfect it, and to share it, in order to serve others. They had to give their Time, their Effort, and their Energy. Each of them had to earn their titles.

Some were poor. Some were rich. Some lost friends. Some had broken homes. Some had good lives, while others lost their lives.

They didn’t wake up one day and self-proclaim themselves as doctors, then rush out to operate on people with wounds and injuries. Instead, they took the time to learn FIRST.

The same goes with choosing to become a Real Life Superhero. Its not about throwing on a costume, getting some weapons, and armor, then going on patrol to kick ass. Its not about, jumping on a forum to ask other unknown, masked, individuals from around the world on what should be done in your neighborhood when it comes to law.

It’s about taking the time to do the require research YOURSELF!! You should be studying Law! You should have an understanding of the politics existing in your community and city. You should know medicine and/or First-Aid, if you want to be out there dealing with crime. You should learn how to speak, how to write, how to articulate your thoughts, and how to master patience.

You MUST learn forgiveness and understanding… compassion and thought. You must understand peace before you can ever dare to create war. You must have a purpose, with the understanding that those watching you carry it out will either be inspired or tainted.

You must learn ALL of this and more, before you even THINK about being a RLSH. You must learn how to give yourself to service in more ways than anger and stubbornness.

The dark path is NOT cool. This is not a comic book. If you are striving to be like that, then you are going in the wrong direction. Batman is a billionaire criminal. The Punisher is a murderer. Superman doesn’t have to make car payments or have insurance. Captain America doesn’t get fired for being late to work (when and if he has a job… other than drawing).

ALL of them have killed and NONE of them stay dead or serve long prison terms.

They are not meant to be followed! Their traits and principles are meant to inspire.

Remember…

“Respect is a gift to be given and a present to be earned… much the same as Love!”

@Nightmare,

You've made some progress in handling your anger and focusing on more than mere vigilante justice. That's good. You have a lot of potential. Just to remind you of something... these quotes are taken from a partial translation of Bansenshukai:

"Without first having a correct heart, it is impossible to take advantage of strategy. Koshi said that not cultivating [the proper heart] will cause confusion and distress. The meaning of "correct heart" is the adherence to virtue, righteousness, loyalty, and sincerity. Without maintaining virtue, righteousness, loyalty, and sincerity, it will be impossible to have intrepid spirit.

Why is a single character written as yaiba over kokoro used for terming these... skills?
Because as a whole it encapsulates the essence of valor. A person... must first commit to valor. And committing... is similar as... valor. When a person does not know how to commit his heart, even if he tries, he shall not succeed. For the meaning of committing the heart and mind is to go beyond sheer enthusiasm. It is the commitment to valor that first and foremost comes out of obligation. Similarly, when valor is not prompted by obligation, it is not... valor in [the service] of one's lord. Valorous enthusiasm is but a temporary burst of anger that creates strength. However, as anger dissipates, this strength will not remain for long because it has not become innate.

Even when strength is deeply founded, if valor is fundamentally arising from impetuous impulse, it will surely cause resentment towards loyalty and excellence. [Then], there will not be thorough evaluation [of matters], nor proper preparation... Consequently, one will only... fail."

Even today, regardless of your situation, these sentiments remain true.
