In practice you pick out landmarks to sprint to, recover a bit by running slower or walking, then pick out new landmarks. It means "speed play" in Swedish.

You want to try to believe that they clocked this guy running at 3540 mph down the track or do you actually mean 35-40 mph?

If a person was to run at 3540mph he would be dead in under 2 seconds because his heart wouldn't be able to keep up with the rest of him His feet and leggs would be burnt really bad from the friction of running that fast That is a hell of alot faster than a man falling out of a plane without a parachute

He ran 100 meters in 9.58 seconds. They're saying it's theoretically possible for humans to do it in 5.

"35-40 mph" means "between 35 and 40 mph."

3540 mph is about Mach 4.6.

The human body has all kinds of untapped potential. For example, based on materials strength the human body is actually capable of living as much as 200 years, so long as homeostasis could be maintained.

Here's one I don't think you've touched on - Juggling.

Since I've learned to juggle, my hand/eye coordination has gone through the roof - and I'm just a novice.

When I see something falling I now have a far greater ability to simply reach out and catch it smoothly and easily without hardly thinking about it, because if i stopped to think about it, it'd be too late. Again, this really comes down to muscle memory, but I don't think most people think about that application of this skill.

You can start the ball rolling with juggling for just $20 or so. Then just add time and patience.

Oh, and it's good for working crowds too. :-)

Keep your stick on the ice.

Thanks, Booster. How long have you been juggling? It's actually on my personal list (in my head) of things to do along with finally figuring out those orbit wheels...

Juggling would be a proprioception exercise. probably one of the best out there.

Another would be non-punching on a weight bag. Get as close as you can to the bag with your punches, fast and hard ones, but don't touch the bag. That one's actually good for a few things.

I do balanced arts I can make the handle of my shovel stand on one finger with the blade up in the air and hold it there for several minutes Ive done this with chairs and small tables too I also practice walking on narrow and sometimes very slippery edges such as over culverts that cover water pipes and I am able to withstand extreme winds as well as extreme cold down to -80 with the winds Without the winds that would have been a high of minus 70 low of 75

Sounds good. Actually knowing what I was looking for I found that I have a book with some proprioception exercises in it, too -- "The Parkour and Freerunning Handbook" by Dan Edwardes.

They suggest a modified squat called a "slow crouch," which sounds like doing squats on the balls of your feet, "rail crouches," which is the same thing while balanced on a horizontal railing, "rail walking" which is walking along a railing like it's a tightrope, "post hopes," which is standing on a solid post and alternating switching legs, and "cat balance," which is like rail walking on all fours.

None of that seems especially easy to me... but I'll work on it (up to it) along with the juggling and "non-punching" thing. I'm used to exercises where if you basically don't quit you kinda automatically complete the exercise successfully (like running for 45 minutes or punching something for a while). We'll see how it goes. The military instills in you a need to exercise regularly, but not so much with any finesse.

Mega - Thanks, yes, I thought juggling was a good suggestion.

I'm not a great juggler... I took a 3 session juggling course from my local parks and rec, and I occasionally practice. I've never performed professionally, or for a crowd. Juggling is one of those skills on my list of 101 things to do before I'm dead, so when I saw the course I took it.

But that's not the point.

The point is that the hand/eye coordination came very quickly and easily. My target objects are scarves and balls for the most part, but the catching and throwing improved dramatically in very short order. Also, I've seen instructional DVDs included with starter scarf and ball kits.

Cheap, easy and effective.
This is a great thread by the way. For a DIY RLSH like me, improving the guy under the costume is the best investment I can make.

I picked up an instructional dvd from netflix a few days ago and am practicing juggleing. It also has slight of hand magic tricks on it. That seems useful for coordination also.

I learned to juggle with the Klutz book of juggling. Nice easy to catch bags to start with and it teaches you the basics well. Be aware though that juggling is one of those things that you'll feel like you're failing at until the day when it clicks, then will be easy after that. The most important lesson of juggling: it's not about being able to catch well, its about throwing regular tosses that are possible to catch.

and work this into sparring... seriously. when both of you are working for no contact and there is the constant motion it is great all around. the non-punching that Z suggested (as close as possible, if possible, to the target without actually "exploding") is great for focus. it also increases your "potential power" when you add the "explosive" content to the punch.

also, juggling is killer for hand/eye

Here's a good one -- walking rapidly over uneven terrain. The rocks at the beach by my house are good for that. At your own risk and all that stuff. I'm not a doctor or specialist in this sort of thing. :/

I'm told though that it also helps make you smarter.

Train with weapons with some reach (bokken, jo, ect). Good for focus and balance, and it give a good feeling on distance. It will make you better at unarmed combat.

I'm not totally sure I understood this topic...

It's kinda vague and general. I'm trying to come up with a detailed and multi-faceted intelligently thought out training plan for myself and figured most of it would be universal... so I was just kinda feeling around for input. Some of it's been helpful, but people get way more enthusiastic when you decide to build an iron man suit.

:/

I don't really train with weapons much, per se, but I do like to exercise with something in each hand a lot of the time. Lately it's been stilts or tee-ball bats, depending on what I'm doing (powerbocking or swinging around tee-ball bats, pretty much). Also they have these weird seaweed things down at the beach -- don't know what they are exactly, but whirling them around is like lashing out with a ginormous whip in each hand.

If you want effective training, you are gonna need a effective diet and motivation. Make it fun. Set goals. And once in a while, do something new.

This is my monster project. Started parts of it a month ago, but within january I'll be working on all goals with full effort.
I'm going to be bigger, stronger, healthier, smarter and better.

Bigger: The goal is 80 kg for now. That takes somewhat 3600 calories a day, so I'll have to eat a shitload. Every day I increase with 150 calories until I'm on 3600.

Stronger: I'm not planning on getting fat, so I need to build some muscle. Using RYP for now.

Healthier: I'm runing five days a week. Atm I run for somewhat ten minutes, gonna make it thirty. This also affect diet (as in bigger), I'll be eating fish once a week, whale when I can get it, five kinds of fruit everyday (so far I've made it to three, two to go) and the rest of the diet is mostly oats, oils and powder. Might to take a few more calories to compensate for the running as well.

Smarter: I've changed into more educative entertainment. Instead of reading a novel, I read about a subject I find intresting ect.

Better: Just something I set to reach beyond my limitations, becoming more than I am. Be more polite, paitent, helpful, loving ect. It's a vague consept, but that's the point. I can also use it as a argument for start training another martial art, take singing lessons whatever. If I got some spare time on my hands, this is where to put it.

Before you know, I'll be a green monster!

Here here. I think of it as "stronger, faster, better," personally. Blame Daft Punk.
