How soon after receiving a burn is it ok to work out again? Anyone know?

It's the moisture that concerns me.

TYIA.

depends on the size and the degree. was it treated by medical staff? if so you chould consult with them.

It's about 3 inches long and a quarter-inch wide. Wiki says it's probably a second degree. I got it 2 weeks ago so the blistering has passed. The inner dermal layers are still exposed and the redness goes deep.

I didn't go in for med treatment on this one - partially because it saves my insurance not to go in unless I need stitches and partially because I'm starting to get those "is everything ok at home?" questions (and I don't need my SO troubled by a pointless inquiry).

What I want is confirmation on whether I can start running again. If I wash it and bind it with an antibiotic afterwards, will it be ok? It's the sweat that concerns me.

Get yourself some burn cream and ace bandages. If your skin is not moist enough, it wil crack, scar, and limit flexibility See a nurse or something at least.

At least wait to work out until the redness is gone and you have some new growth.

ok thanks. I did notice that it was cracking and developing a sort of crust so I started wrapping it w/ some antibiotic cream. That seems to have helped. I'll hold off on the runs for a few more days.

Someone took a swipe at me with one of those cigarette lighters you find in older cars. I'm not really sure how the burn happened since those things are supposed to have metal rims on them that "protect" their users from just that.

If I remember correctly, The outer rim is actually more for electrical current then it is a heat shield.. And by nature conductive material gets hot easier.

That crust could be an infection; Use a triple antibiotic creme, burn cream to keep the skin hydrated, and take only the recommended dos of over the counter painkillers with a full glass of water for any pain... and have it looked at by a real doctor instead of posting about it here.

I'm closing this thread; There is nothing else we can do for you that we have not already done.

edit: ok i was going to close it but it looks like I dont have perms?

Ravenblade - I will see a doctor if it shows signs of infection. I was merely curious if others here had suffered similar injuries and how soon afterward they began exercising.
