I have been working out a lot lately and I know I won't see any results if my diet doesn't change. Any suggestions?

Try looking up that 'eating for your blood type" thing. I accidentally followed some of it's rules not knowing it existed & it works pretty well.

All that eat this not that stuff is pretty good, because you make an impact without having to give up every kind of food you like, you just do a better job of eating the healthiest versions of what you like to eat.

@Flora I usually have a apple and a banana with some granola flax seed cereal (without milk) about 7 am. Then I have a granola bar at about 10 am. at 12 I usually eat a sandwich whole wheat bread with turkey. light mayo packed with tomato, onion, spinach and sometimes honey mustard. about 3 I eat something small, usually a few carrots with regular ranch, or broccoli. Then for dinner about 6 I eat a turkey, bacon, avocado sub from subway, or sweet onion chicken teriyaki. I sometime just eat chicken and white rice.

I used to eat only dinner..... I am trying to eat smaller portions throughout the day.

@SH I will look into the blood type thing sounds interesting.

@Nemesis I still eat stuff like pizza and cheeseburgers. i just order or eat a smaller portion. I even will eat a veggie pizza or the de-light from papa murphys.

I am really trying to get my eating under control, I am doing this without guidance right now, and just really need some input.

I'd love to come with something, but I'll wait for Flora so I don't make an ass out of myself.

My views on diet is simple, I don't do advanced stuff. Looked like you where about to invent gunpowder or something. So I'll just keep my sticks and stones in my pocket.

Go see a nutrition specialist and request blood work to go with it.

Good idea Red, I might do that.

I make my decision on food based on carb, fat, and calories. I don't want to totally get rid of any of those, but I do eat stuff with lower values.

The problem with the nutrition "experts" is that they still cling to "breakfastlunchdinner",
an idea that will never work
and contributes to many problems including alcoholism.

I am a certified personal trainer, group exercise leader, yoga instructor
( as if they have ANY science at all )
and a provider of continuing education for other personal trainers, yoga instructors and group exercise leaders
with most of my own Continuing Ed Credits for the last 17 years in nutrition.
I am, also, a recognized Expert Witness.

I type info here, for free, ONLY because you-all are RLSH.

It is well-known, amongst my peers, that "blood-type" diet is drivel.
It is not harmful.
So, I typed nothing about it in this thread.

Basing a diet on carbs, fat and calories
is like basing a car on fuel, lube and no wheels.

HERE are THE nutrition basics:
1. the body is ready for food every four hours
and will never care what style you are in the mood for.
Not eating causes blood sugar to drop in ALL persons.

2. "food" is *protien*fat*carbs
period

3. other needs are: *water*fiber.

ALL diets for ALL person MUST
contain
Protein, Carbs, Fat, Fiber and Water, period.

Foolishness or demand might make a person go longer than four hours without food
but, healing will not happen and, because the brain burns five times more carbs than
all other tissues put together night and day for a life time,
the brain suffers plenty when you don't eat.

Justice,
let us design a diet, based on what you are already eating and using these guidelines, please

Phear my stick!
Quit eating that white crap and get some real rice. And don't eat anything from subway, subway is evil! Whole wheat bread is more often a lie than not. Make sure it's not "a little whole wheat, some siftet flour and a little burned sugar to make it look healthy"-bread.
And PROTEINS EVERY MEAL! GRRR!
And some of that stuff you eat, I don't even know what it is. Stop eating it, just in case.

@Flora,

Stop that.

The nutritional specialist that I'm referring to is a person who has a Master's or Doctorate in nutritional science. And no, they don't diagnose everything as alcoholism and believe in the "breakfastlunchdinner" schedule. You're misleading someone into possibly making a poor personal choice.

That "drivel" you call a "blood-type diet" is based on the whole picture of what nutrient levels are found in your blood stream and your overall wellness on top of your workout schedules...etc.

Informed consent is one of the most important parts of any plan of care because it allows your patients to make a fair and educated decision about how their treatment is executed. By misinforming a person about another avenue of treatment, you violate that trust and your ethical duty to provide accurate information.

Nutrition can be simple and it can be complicated. The complicated stuff always change because of all the wierd discoveries that always pop up on the field. The simple stuff is to simple to be discarded for the discovery of some hormone that make you fart more gentle.

My opinion, for what little it's worth, is to pay honest attention to what you feel cravings for.

@Eon,

Indeed. Example:

You suddenly have a craving for bananas. A study was conducted which showed that the body was lacking potassium (among other things).

I don't cut anything completely. I do not believe cutting one thing such as carbs does anything other than starve your body. I eat 5-6 time a day. I portion everything. I am really trying to eat healthy because I am currently 230 pounds and am trying to cut to 185. I am working out every single day (jog 2 miles in the morn, 2 at night, among other things.) I can finally run a mile in 10 minutes (something I haven't been able to do since I was 16.

I am not trying to cut this weight fast, I have one year.

The reason is that I fight in a small MMA club and I am a small heavy weight. I can beat others regularly but my body is built for 185 class. I might fight 205 first.

I had the same problem in boxing when I was younger. I just had trouble cutting weight, I was never under 200. Doesn't matter how much I work out I never can stay under that barrier. I ended up being in a unlimited (class 200+) and ended up fighting guys that were 300 lbs.

I am good with workouts, but not the diet portion. I just want to eat everything. With the workouts I have been doing I know I am burning more calories than I am consuming, but I don't want to hit the 200 mark and not be able to pass it.

Her argument's a little more complex than that when she makes it. Basically that we're supposed to eat every 4 hours and hunger induced by not doing that leads to drinking to satisfy urges we feel based on starving etc etc.

It's not my argument, but I'm just saying it's more than "if you eat three meals a day you WILL become an alcoholic."

yessir. Thankyou, sir.
AMONGST the problems caused by not eating every four hours is alcoholism.

PS. the protien-intake MUST be exact every four hours.

Too much protien is removed by the kidneys and not stored.
This is very hard on the kidneys - very hard.

Too little protien and people do not heal and, also,
get sugar cravings that ALSO manifest as alcohol cravings.

Alcohol cravings are NOT necessary or normal.
They are just a version of sugar cravings that come from not eating enough protien

I'm prolly gonna catch shit for this but I lost 30 pounds by drinking a 2 liter of sprite and eating a box of red vines every day . I did a bunch of cardio , skating and biking . With my body type ( most peoples I think ) sugar is great energy . Chocolate and cake ect is fat and sugar bad combination . Also locally grown foods . And never eat ground beef unless you know and trust your butcher . Most ground beef is 15% pink sludge . The fda allows 85% beef and 15% poisin to be called 100% beef Mad

You can technically lose weight on any diet. Look up "twinkie diet."

Sugar does create energy (36ATP/sugar molecule); however, it won't help you with things like building muscle or repairing cells. To do those things, you need lipids (fat) and proteins.

From sugar, you end up getting a bunch of ATP, but when you also end up getting waste products like lactic acid, pyruvic acid, and alcohols.

If you guys want a more in depth explanation, let me know. Smile LoL
