| Hey guys sorry to be a bore but the skills section is for non combat skills, But it seems like a really interesting convo. Bartitsu is the "gentleman fighting style" right? supposedly utilized in the Victorian era? | |

| Yup, most notably in "The Empty House" where Holmes noted that he used it to survive Moriarty's attack in "The Final Problem." I rather enjoyed its use of walking sticks, as it reminded me of fencing techniques.

| Guess this is not about recreation, since it's posted on this forum.
First I must state that there are social skills far less risky, more profitable and easier to learn than fighting styles. If you can't talk with people without getting into fights you'd better stay away from the street.
When it comes to styles they grow old fast. In the beginning they have a purpose, but it's often lost after a couple of decades in dojos and tournaments. Keysi is fresh, so it might be a good idea to learn some of it before it become the property of old men in pajamases selling belts. KM ain't that old, but in some dojos it allready gotten there.
I don't belive in fighting styles myself. I belive in principles and instinct. Learn how the body react to violence and how to use it to your advantage. Learn the principles of aiki, jiu and balance, use them to redefine your insticts. But it all boils down to your ability to hurt people. Many civilized people fear hurting others more than getting hurt themselves.
And most importantly, learn about the consequenses of violence. That will help you take decisions that won't give you a one way ticket to jail.
Don't take me wrong, most styles have something to offer. But everything they put on the plate ain't good for you, and there is no shame eating between the meals as long as it's not junk. | |

| Bruce Lee has said that as long as human anatomy remains the same, there will only be one fighting style. Every specialized system of martial arts is simply a limited interpretation of the science of martial arts as a whole. | |

| Oh, I do a little Keysi! But primarily Krav Maga, very practical for street survival, disarmings, and incorporates pressure points to humanley deal with an attacker without hurting them. |

| If confronted, I'd use misdirection and try to diffuse the situation.
If attacked my style is simply hitting them 3 ways....hard, fast, and continuously.
