This is a non-profit dedicated since 1990 to providing reliable info on gangs. Anyone who wants to better understand the impact of gang related activity in their community, or how to more effectively deal with gangs could do much worse than to use this resource.

Some of the studies are over ten-years old, but there are a few that are more recent. They look like they could use some more resources and connections, unfortunately.

Gang profiles are actually as recent as 2010, but some of the surveys listed are pretty old. Much of the information is still relevant, although I do think they're trying to sell courses, so they wouldn't put the most recent data on this site.

For that kind of thing, I'd suggest applying to the FBI civilian academy. You can learn lots of things there, but it's very competitive to get accepted.

Oh but FBI also has other educational resources (classes) open to the more general public, and they're worth checking out as well.

The curriculum includes:
Practical problems involving evidence collection and preservation.
FBI jurisdiction and congressional oversight.
Structure and operation of FBI field offices and resident agencies.
Fingerprint, forensic, technology, training, and other services.
Policies and issues: ethics, discipline, communications, civil rights, and criminal trends.
Firearms training.
