Basically they're when you do some kind of training and write down the results. The idea is that you measure your progress against where you have been by looking back at where you were.

So a simple pushup training log would be like this:

"Today I did 62 pushups without resting, a new personal best for me."

That's my understanding, anyway. Correct me if I'm wrong, guys.

EDIT - also note that the regular "training" section still exists for generic discussions about training-related stuff.

My training logs are normally a graph or column with a date on one side and the activity across the top or vise versa. I will usually do them in 12 week blocks. Don’t ask me why 12 weeks its just the way we all did them when I was in the Army.

I did training logs when I was working out 3-4 days a week. They went something like bthis:

Date / Exercise/ Weight / Reps / Sets

If I did something like pushups I'd leave the "weight" section blank. These type of logs not only allow you to keep track of your progress, but they also show you where you need to focus more or less. They also can serve as motivation to keep up whaever workouts are progrressing well.

I noticed the most improvement in my lateral pulldowns. I went from doing 9 sets of 10 reps @ 80lbs to 10 sets of 25 reps @ 12lbs over the course of a few weeks.

Of course I also weighed 145lbs and had 5.7% body fat too. Sigh...

I like training plans, myself. I guess it's basically just a matter of how you look at things and what motivates you.
