| Way I see it, it's just a money maknig attempt. The premise of " First Real Superhero " is badly thoguht out, under-researched, and whoever wins it will likely fade into obscurity quickly. If you ask me, it's just asking for trouble. And to be honest, the idea of more rlsh publicity, is not something I'd be keen on. And who is this guy who they're using? They could at least use someone we know. | |

| The person may fade into obscurity but he or she will do so with enough funding to help a lot of people. It always interests me that people who make such a big deal about maintaining "secret" identities would worry about fading into obscurity. Isn't that sort of the point? | |

But since we have no idea who that person would be, we can't be sure that they'll put the funds to the best use.

| We also have no idea if the person will survive, succeed, or fulfill the terms if the agreement under which all the training will take place. Companies are good at finding loopholes fir nit paying contest winners. | |

| the fact is that no matter what, these people aren't interested in actual super hero work.
a simple google search of real life super hero, or real super hero, would tell them that this wouldn't be the first uk based hero.
my bull shit meter is going off. i dont trust this to be a serious thing

| @ Gadgetastic - I like what you're saying here. It makes much sense indeed, but.... - Quote :

| This is bad timing for me. I don't want to be seen as some corporate lackey. I'm spending a lot of time going through this process of training and development, and I personally don't want to see some dumb ass get himself hurt because he's looking to make quick money | |

| Anything can be an opportunity.
Example, Phoenix Jones, for better or worse, for whatever reason, is big in the media. Maybe you think he's a media whore, maybe you think he's calling attention to problems that need it. Either way, Thanatos has been able to use the opportunity to get more supplies to help the homeless. WIN!
Another example. Kick Ass comes out and every jackass with a blog writes the same, "These people are for real and were all inspired by this movie," fluff piece. Bad? No. Result, more attention drawn to causes, more opportunity for funding, more acceptance of the idea by the public at large.
Point? Everything can be an opportunity if people don't spend every moment griping about it.
Guardian Goblin, this is a GREAT time to start out.

| Hmm... I like the idea of using the media to draw attention to causes, but I do genuinely believe that this may cause some people looking for attention for themselves to attempt to become RLSHs That'd be my only problem | |

Yes, but the RLSH community isn't being given such an offer. There are plans for a few other "To Make an RLSH" type shows, but they are all about turning regular Joe's into heroes…not about helping pre-existing ones. I was just thinking about this...if a "regular Joe" is giving this opportunity, that means it's a public opportunity, right? Who's to say someone already in the RLSH community can't give it a go. I mean, he/she has any chance as any other regular Joe, right? In any case, I haven't seen any major opportunities put out to the public in the States. It appears to me that producers tend to reach out to individuals that are already in the RLSH community to some extent, so in a sense, regular Joe hasn't been asked all that much. At least that's my perspective. Have I been missing them possibly?

| What these reality show guys want to do is manufacture drama (in all cases) and get laughs at your expense (in most cases). It's not worth it. No one will get helped, the "star(s)" will get paid slave wages, and almost certainly look ridiculous.
The key to not looking ridiculous is to dominate the circumstances in which you appear. If you can't do that, my personal suggestion is not to appear. And if you can do that, that's just breaking even -- the next thing is to have involvement with the media actually accomplish something. If you can't do that and you don't feel the need to appear to support some friend of yours or something -- again, my personal advice is skip it.

| Also this thread is labeled what we want it to be -- "paid RLSH training," whereas what it actually is is a casting call for a reality show. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Still, I hope they're as successful in reaching their goals as Phoenix Jones has been... I just wouldn't advise anyone to participate, because I wouldn't participate. Draw your own conclusions, though. | |

| This scam shows up from time to time. Usually it's a PM sent to "selected heroes". Sometimes they even offer for you to go to China for several months with no contact with the real world.
In one instance we tracked the "offer" down to a lunatic who saw himself as a new age militia survivalist and wanted rlsh to go to his trailer park to learn from him.

Now that's a lot scarier than it just being a TV show that might be more interested in ratings than helping people. Go to China?!? Trailer park?!? What's that all about? Those scam situations seem to be entirely different animals than a TV show offer.
